With the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, numerous people have suffered a loss of income. This is especially true for daily wage earners, like rubber tappers. Yayasan Kadir dan Fatimah (YKF) has adopted and supported students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Datin Fatimah, Tong Pelu for over 20 years. Together with Mcdonald’s Malaysia, we helped initiate the building of a school library and support 12 students a year through our Tunas Harapan scholarship programme.

Tong Pelu is a small, rural village in Kedah. Many of the residents are rubber tappers and have been unable to make an income during the Covid-19 pandemic due to both the MCO and low rubber prices. Teachers at SK Datin Fatimah initiated an effort, the Tun Fatimah Fund, to raise funds in order to support the students from the school and their families.

Teachers at the school collected small amounts of money and Yayasan Kadir & Fatimah donated Rm 2000. A total of 60 families were aided by the Tun Fatimah Fund, including villagers, families of the Tunas Harapan scholarship recipients, and the school’s workers. Donations included daily necessities as well as chicken and dodol for Hari Raya.
